English Premier League (PL) side, Everton, have confirmed that their Congolese winger, Yannick Bolasie, will undergo surgery after sustaining a serious knee ligament injury against Manchester United on Sunday.
Bolasie picked up the injury in the second half of the 1-1 draw at Goodison and was replaced by Enner Valencia. Everton scored late on in the game to cancel out United’s lead by Ibrahimovic.
‘‘Scans have now confirmed anterior cruciate ligament damage to the right knee. Bolasie will undergo surgery in the next few days,’‘ the club confirmed in a statement on their website.
The player will thus miss the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January. The DRC are locked in group C along with champions Ivory Coast, Morocco and Togo.
English press are also projecting that his season may be over with the nature of the injury. The DRC player had played every game since arriving at Merseyside from Crystal Palace in August.
The 27-year-old agreed a five-year deal to move to Goodison Park. He was the fourth senior signing of the summer transfer window for manager Ronald Koeman.
He has so far played 13 games for Everton and has only one goal to his credit. Bolaise joined after four seasons with Crystal Palace, he joined Palace from Bristol City in August 2012. He scored nine times and had 13 assists in the 90 appearances he made in the Premier League.
